Finally the plane left and landed in Surabaya airport at around 12:30pm. We met our tour coordinator, Tania, and two of her colleagues, X and Andy (I forgot the name of X!). We immediately headed out of the airport and our first stop was to a nearby restaurant for lunch. We were told that we can order anything we want!
After lunch, we were told that we would be heading straight to the homestay at Mt Ijen, which is a ten hour ride away. TEN HOUR RIDE AWAY!! OH NO!!
Four hours later, we arrived at a petrol station for a quick toilet break and run to the convenience store for some snacks. I bought myself two bottles of red bull, in anticipation of the following day's early start.
Another four hours later, our transport brought us to a beautiful and rustic restaurant. It was pretty empty and similarly, we were told to order whatever we would like to eat.
After another two hours of bumpy ride in darkness, we finally arrived at a coffee plantation that is near Mt Ijen, This coffee plantation offers both hostel rooms and homestay options for travellers who wish to visit Mt Ijen. At 11:30pm, we were there at our homestay house and were given 1.5 hours to washup and rest.
The girls decided to go take a SUPER COLD shower but I opted for a short nap instead. We were to be ready to leave for Mt Ijen at 1am the next day. It was going to be a long day, with a hike up and down the dormant volcano.
