After catching Sunrise at the famous TianAnMen Square, I loitered around to take in the immensity of the place. Can't imagine so much history happened on these grounds. Since the Palace is only open at 8:30am, I took the opportunity to visit JingShan Park that is right beside the Palace. This park plays homage to the first President of China, Sun Yet-Sen.
The park took about an hour to visit and soon after it was time to visit the Palace itself. Paid ¥15 for a trip up to the gate tower where the entire TianAnMen square and surrounding buildings can be seen. This is where Chairman Mao would stand as he inspects the passing troops.
The Palace itself costed another ¥60 and it was a huge place. The crowd was tremendous and it was tough going near some of the buildings as everyone was jostling and wanting to take a photo of the royal seat or the royal bed of copulation.
By 12:30pm, which is 4 hours later, the visit of the Palace was complete. Since it was really early, I strolled all the way back to my hostel for some lunch at a nearby snack store. The GongBao Chicken was decent and the Almond pudding was horrible, but at least the store was convenient.
After a nap in the afternoon, I decided to head over to GuiJie near DongZhiMen station to check out a famous roasted duck store there. Had planned to eat Peking duck but when I was there after 1.5hours of walking, I was still full! Walked down both sides of the GuiJie and realised that the highlight of the entire place was the Spicy Crawfishes that was sold everywhere. There was definitely a younger crowd at this place, perhaps 30-40 year-olds.
Since the appetite was not back, I walked back to my hostel, which was another hour. Bought some oden and fried chicken at 7-11 and snacked on them in the comfort of my room.
