On my flight from Beijing to Huangshan, there was an couple seated diagonally beside me. A young couple in their early thirties. I was quite amused during the ride as they started smooching the moment the cabin lights dimmed. Interestingly, when I was alighting from the plane, the guy approached me and asked if I was heading to Huangshan scenic area the next day. I replied yes and he asked if he and his girlfriend could join me and I agreed. It's always good to have company from time to time. Especially when going to somewhere that's more rural and quieter, I was wondering how I would cope being alone there.
Additionally, the couple had arranged for a guide for the first day of their trip up huangshan and they invited me to go along with them, which is such a blessing since the guide gave good instructions on how to get to my hotel, in fact routing the trip to pass by my hotel, Beihai hotel, during lunch so that I can check in and dump my bag on my bunk bed. After they had their lunch in the restaurant and I had a couple of bread in my room, we met up and continued to hike to their hotel. It was about 1.5hours of climbing up and down stairs and after 3km of stairs climbing, we reached their hotel, Baiyun Hotel.
After bidding goodbye to them, I headed back to my own hotel along the same route that I had taken earlier. Walking alone meant that I could take my own sweet time to photograph anything that caught my eye. Including spending half an hour photographing a pair of squirrels that loitered along the path. It was really awesome to have company along the way, and yet really awesome to be alone and be able to photograph leisurely and enjoy the scenery.
It has been drizzling the entire day and that made the place even foggier than usual. Unfortunately with the thick fog, it meant that Sunset was very muted and unable to be photographed. It is nearing the end of autumn and the leaves are turning shades of yellow, red and orange. Walking along the quiet paths (quiet when there are no tourists, which they appear every few minutes) was rather soothing and relaxing. Praying really hard that Sunrise will be good tomorrow. I plan to wake up at 5am to hike to the Sunrise spot in darkness in order to be there in time.
Back in my hotel, dinner was yet another few pieces of buns and a can of milk. Was tempted to go to the restaurant but I refused to be allowed to be ripped off. Even the snacks at the convenient store cost exactly triple of whatever I paid for at huangshan city itself.
Even as I travel alone in China, God has never failed to care for me. God sent angels along the way, in the form of this couple, for their company and even for the guide that they had alone.
God is good, all the time.
