Woke up at an early 4am today wanting to capture the night sky and the rising sun. However the weather was no cooperative and it was drizzling nonstop. And so I decided to go back to sleep and woke up at 7am instead.
After having a simple breakfast of a can of milk and some buns, I packed up my belongings and checked out of my hotel. It was drizzling slightly but I didn't care. Somehow the army goretex jacket seemed to give +20stamina and +20vitality when worn!
Hiking in the rain from the hotel to the north entrance of the gorge took about an hour via many flights of steps up and down. The scenery was rather beautiful even though there was fog everywhere and visibility was low.
Finally, I reached the entrance of the gorge and about 4km in steps and precarious ledges awaited me. The view, even though obstructed by fog, was breathtaking and I felt like I was in ancient martial art movies where the grandmasters had to navigate through mountains to reach their place of training up on the peaks. Hiking through the fog made the journey even more surreal. This is a place that descriptive words will fail and even photographs do no justice to it. The fog and drizzle made the place so mystical, something that clear weather would not have provided.
Eventually, after never ending steep flights of stairs, I reached the West Sea Trackrail Station. There was a single Trackrail that brought visitors up and down the mountain. 4 hours of hiking through the gorge by me was undone in the 3 minute ride up! The 100rmb trackrail fee was absolutely worth it, else I would have to hike back up! Plus hiking all 5 hours with my camera gear and entire backpack that I brought to China was no joke at all. Now I'm resting in my hotel room at Beiyun Hotel with very sore shoulders. Perhaps I should get a back and shoulder massage when I'm back in my Huangshan hotel.
