Welcome to Akita

Finally reached Akita! Had to wait for around 30 minutes before the AIU shuttle bus arrived. The weather was pretty cooling but due to the strong sun, it ended up pretty hot instead. After a 20 minute ride, we finally arrived at AIU. The entire campus is way more interesting than what I expected! After some formalities and orientation procedures, we were given our room keys. I'm currently staying in the Komachi Hall room 521. It is a 4 story building and my room is on the second story. There is an ethernet port and powerpoints for me to use but I didn't have the time to set it up so I just simply moved all my belongings in before going over for the campus orientation tour and briefing. We were given a tour of the campus and I am extremely amazed at the architecture of the entire place. Timber seems to be the material of choice for the campus and everywhere has beautifully designed woodwork as part of the building. The library is open 24/7 and is an amazing place which looks like the American National Library of Congress! Even the classrooms feature heavy woodwork and each of the classroom has giant windows on the side, which gives an awesome view of the surrounding fields and forests of Akita. The entire university is situated far from town so there is a extremely strong sense of "back-to-nature" feeling.
