Kabuki Performance 4th July

We were given a rare opportunity to attend a traditional japanese play (kabuki) at the theatre in Akita City. We left AIU at around 5:15pm and while on our way there by bus, we had our dinner. Dinner was a simple bento prepared by the school cafeteria. When we reached there, our tickets were partially removed (similar to movie tickets) and we entered the lobby area. There were many people, of which a good number were middle-aged ladies wearing their kimonos. It was an amazing sight, comparable to Singapore's performance theatres and we did feel out of place with our shabby clothes. Thankfully I brought a couple of long sleeved shirts which allowed me to have a smart-casual look. There was also a souvenir-snacks booth and I purchased two packets of delicious nuts to bring back to Singapore. It cost 500Yen (S$8) per pack! After finding our seats (which was all the way at the back of the hall), we sunk into the chair and eagerly anticipated the performance. Sitting on my left was Shu Yun while my right was the steps, followed by Jerrine and Eng Chiew. My bestie sat a couple seats away, on the row in front of me. The performance was interesting, the stage decoration was spectacular but as the performance was in Japanese, I could only catch two phrases in the entire 2.5hr performance ("oyasuminasai" and "sanzen")! Shu Yun completely KOed beside me while I watched movies on my mobile phone with Jerrine. There was two intermissions, but as they were both within the first hour, the second hour was quite uncomfortable. The seats were not as comfortable, the legspace was small and the temperature of the theatre was pretty warm. Soon, the kabuki was over and we were on the bus back to AIU.
